Land of the long white cloud...umm...and rain.

It's actually more like a lot of gray clouds. Yep, New Zealand weather is not what it's all hyped up to be. It's actually quite bizarre.

With this one I am going to generalize it taking Auckland as base, but it would apply to most of the country with a few exceptions.

Overall it would be considered mild I suppose, but not in a comfortable way. The seasons sort of blend into each other homogeneously. The two annoying aspects are the constant rain and the chilly arctic wind from south. Don't get me wrong, it does not rain all the time. We do have a week or two of the year where it does not rain at all! Sarcasm aside it really is annoying that you can't know when it's going to rain. It could be perfect blue skies, you make plans, and by the time you leave the house it is already drizzling.

It does not get cold in Auckland that you need a thick jacket but except for the 2-3 months of summer (if it's a hot summer) you can't really walk around in a t-shirt in the evenings either. So I guess it could be considered a mild winter throughout the 8-9 months and mild summer the rest. You will get a week or two of spring and autumn but that's it. The minute that sun is covered with clouds it gets cold. The air is actually cold but the strong sun helps it warm up. It's hard to describe the phenomena. I would be better at it if I was a meteorologist.

You feel cheated really when you have to deal with the coldness of winter and no fun of the snow.
And I think it does mentally effect you not to have 4 distinct seasons, you know, a sense of progress of life.
